Innovative Oat Cosmetics has applied for a patent to protect their unique manufacturing process of colloidal oatmeal, which turns wholegrain oat flour into an ingredient ideal for cosmetics use.

The ingredient is ideal for formulators of cosmetics as it is highly soluble, thereby reducing mixing time. It also absorbs oil at higher levels compared to other flours, enhancing its emulsifying effect. It is the only colloidal oatmeal which is certified Ecocert natural, and it contains an extremely low microbial count. The process also ‘exposes’ the bio-actives such as beta glucan and avenanthramides (antioxidants)  effectively enhancing its moisturising and anti-irritant properties.

Oat Cosmetics Managing Director Cark Maunsell commented: “It is an important step for Oat Cosmetics that we are applying for this patent. We have always been committed to providing the cosmetics industry with a unique product and service and have been committed to supporting scientists and product development teams. This patent will further enhance our reputation as a global supplier with a unique offering.”
